While working for the UN mission in Darfur, maverick Stephan Ponte (32), a demining specialist within the UN, secretly hires British mercenaries from private military company Augustus. He asks them to save children from a school bus that got stuck in a minefield, in the middle of an area where the UN is not allowed. When all mercenaries are killed during this mission, Stephan is shocked and starts to investigate what actually happened. He stumbles on a much bigger landmines trade route from the UK to Darfur, all leading to one illegal landmine producer, Lady Ashcroft. When Stephan tries to bring her to justice, he is confronted with opposition from various stakeholders who want to prevent him from doing this at all costs. Is Stephan willing to go through with it and risk not only his career and relationship, but also the position of the UN in Darfur?
