Cast new family feature film ‘The day my father became a bush’ announced
Noortje Herlaar (Mary Poppins, Ramses), Teun Kuilboer (De Heineken Ontvoering, Mannenharten) and the ten-year-old Celeste Holsheimer are cast for the new Dutch family feature film ‘The day my father became a bush’. The film has started shooting in september in Croatia and is expected to be released end of 2016. Other roles are for Susan Visser, Anneke Blok, Leny Breederveld and Ali Ben Horsting.
‘The day my father became a bush’ is based upon Joke van Leeuwen’s novel of the same name. The film is directed by Nicole van Kilsdonk (Ventoux, Taking Chances) and the script has been written by Maureen Versprille and Nicole van Kilsdonk.
Nicole van Kilsdonk: ‘’The day my father became a bush’ is a film that has to be made – especially these days. Bringing up the contemporary and relevant theme of escaping war, but also the absurdity of it: through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl.
Before Toda's father became a bush (don't ask!), he was a pastry chef. Everyday he would rise before dawn to make two dozen kinds of pastries and cakes. Then, one day, everything changes. War breaks out in the south, and Toda's father has to defend his country. Toda is sent to stay with her mother, who lives in a neighbouring land... not a simple journey in wartime. But Toda is a plucky girl who doesn't give up easily - she is determined to find her mother! An adventure story with laughs, thrills and emotion.
The film is produced by Lemming Film, in coproduction with Minds Meet (BE), A Private View (BE), Nukleus Film (HR) and the EO.
