War of 8 Weeks
In may 1945 the Netherlands celebrates its liberty. The inhabitants of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch islands, have been able to hold up fairly good during the German occupation in World War II. Until a group of SS and SD-ers strands on the island to escape. A dangerous impasse exists, while the Canadians refuse to interfere. When the Dutch flag is raised at the mainland, the inhabitants of the island are still isolated from the outside world. Up until 8 weeks after the liberation of the Netherlands the Wehrmacht and the SS group keep the island occupied. In 'a war of eight weeks' the children of that time tell their stories. Now, 60 years later, they see the seriousness of the insecure situation they were in. Excited boy- and typical girl stories appear to be not so innocent. Along the way they tell about the effect this period had in their further life. War stories in a small and isolated island community.
