The year 1900. Out on the lush, flowery island of Flores in the Dutch East Indies, AGATHE (56) and her husband JAN (59) are running a plantation.
Their marriage is loveless, their relationships conservative. When Jan suddenly dies, Agathe decides to keep it a secret and continue running the plantation in his stead. Then, her niece JOSEPHINE (30) comes over from the Netherlands. Her progressive and somewhat naïve ideas disrupt the status quo and create tension in the relationships with the Indonesian workers. How long will these white women continue to be able to hold on in this endlessly colorful environment?
